This Week in Hype: Defending Kendrick’s Greatness, RapGenius’s Shawn Setaro & More Posted by Nathan S. on 03/21/14 | Filed under Downloads, This Week in Hype, Podcasts, Rap Genius

So it turns out that, despite the odds, I managed to not die at SXSW. So....as long as I'm still alive...how about we just keep doing these "This Week in Hype" podcast? Sound good? Cool then.

This week, I defend Kendrick Lamar against an older generation who wants to place him in the "weird" box, bring in RapGenius' Shawn Setaro to talk about the site's origins and general rap nerdery and much more.

Discussed This Week:

* As always, shout out to RefinedHype Nation member Tino for that dope theme song.
* Additional shout out to INTEL for providing this week's instrumentals. Producers, if you're not wack and would like your beats featured, email me. Speaking of which, I ask a new trivia question. Answer it and you can win some free shit from my house.
* I couldn't just let it lie with one article, I had to continue my defense of Kendrick Lamar against the (mostly) older generation who seems to think of him as the young over-rated guy with the weird voice.
* I bring in RapGenius' executive editor and the host of the "Outside the Lines" podcast, Shawn Setaro, to talk about his long, unexpected road to RapGenius, his top lyricists of all-time, how to spot a bad rapper in any form and much more. You should definitely follow Shawn.
* Today's closing track, Kendrick Lamar's "Sing About Me", which I'll argue is an all-time hip-hop song.
