This Week in Hype: “Blurred Lines” vs. “Something Else”, Rap Critic Interview & More

Posted by Nathan S. on 08/09/13 | Filed under Downloads, Podcasts, This Week in Hype, The Rap Critic
I'll be honest. I'm not sure how my life ended up at a point where I get paid to talk about rap, and people listen, but that point is here, it's awesome, and it's called "This Week In Hype" podcast. Let's do the damn thing.

For the latest edition, I debut our official new theme song, dig into this week's album sales, most notably Robin Thicke vs. Tech N9ne, bring on The Rap Critic to talk about 2 Chainz, Cash Money and Sesame Street and much more.

Discussed This Week:

* It's official, RefinedHype Nation member Tino won our theme song contest - you'll now get to enjoy his joint at the top of every podcast. For his efforts he's won the legions ones of groupies that come with writing a rap podcast intro, plus some headphones from Sol Republic.
* Another trivia question, another chance to win some fresh gear from the always dope IM King, who have re-upped and are our official sponsor for August.
* Everyone thinks they know what "Macaroni Time" means, no one knows what "Macaroni Time" means.
* I dig into this week's album charts, including Tech N9ne's #4 debut with "Something Else", and Robin Thicke selling nearly 200K copies of "Blurred Lines". Really? That many people wanted to buy the album though? Not the single, the album? Really?
* For "10 Minutes With Someone Dope", which I'm now calling "An Unspecified Amount of Time With Someone Dope", I bring in The Rap Critic to dissect the rise of meta-rap (aka 2 Chainz, Riff Raff, etc.), the surreal world of Cash Money, Sesame Street's street cred and more.
* Salute to The Rap Critic. You should follow him, and check out some of his videos. If "Started From the Bottom" vs. "Juicy" sounds like something you'd enjoy, trust me, you'll enjoy this.
* This week's closing song, The Pharcyde's "Runnin".

Now go subscribe to "This Week in Hype" is on iTunes. Do it. Why won't you do it? WHY??? Oh, you did? Thanks.

Enjoy...
