I believe it was 9th Wonder who called Torae the last of a dying breed, and I have to agree. There just aren't many guys left making that unashamedly NYC, punch you in the face but still lyrical, Pete Rock beats and DJ Premier scratches hip-hop left.

That's why Torae's "For the Record" album made a lot of Best of 2011 lists. Fans of that true NYC sound recognize one of their own, and why they'll be re-upping Torae's new "Off the Record" EP. Comprised of tracks that didn't make "For the Record", the EP contains concrete hard rhymes and instrumentals from 9th Wonder, Khrysis, Marco Polo, Eric G. and more. In the words of the man himself:
