Hopefully someday we'll get to the point where don't refer to female emcees as female emcees (or worse, "femcees"), anymore than we refer to Kanye and Jay-Z as male emcees. Their gender will be a part of how their identified, but not the primary way. They'll be viewed as artists and, you know, individual human beings first, women second. It's going to take some time, but I believe that day will come, and when it does, Rapsody will be one of the reasons why.

Did that intro sound overly serious? Well, Rapsody brings out the serious hip-hop head in me. As expected, her new "The Idea of Beautiful" album is dope, but it's not background music. There are no gimmicks, no "hit singles" here, only track after track of music created to inspire, and inspire thought. An album full of music you actually have to listen to, imagine that.
