I like my
R. Kelly as ridiculous as possible. The real joy in listening to Kelly is his incredible ability to take the most seemingly mundane or insane premises - like a
yodeling vagina or
knocking girls up - and make them sound legitimately good. But when he gets serious, I mean actually serious, like he does on his new track "
When a Woman Loves", you're forced to admit that the man might just be an r&b genius. An insane genius, but a genius none the less.
As you can tell by the artwork, this is Kells doing a Motown/'60s soul tribute, combining lush production with his always melodic voice. Personally, I'll take a four minute exploration of
having sex next to butter rolls, but I have to give it up to the man, he killed this. "When a Woman Loves" will be off his upcoming album, tentatively titled "Love Letters". Hopefully there will be at least a few insane gems on there in addition to quality music like this.
