First, we had
Mac Miller and Cam'ron on a song together and now we have Mac on a track with
Diggy Simmons. This kid is really going in with the unexpected collaborations. There's nothing wrong with an unexpected collaboration as long as you can pull it off and Mac does a very fine job of doing just that.
Big Jerm provides the production on "Definition Of Cool" and does a great job of giving the song that 90's vibe that seems to fit Mac perfectly. And maybe I'm listening too hard or not hard enough, but the bells heard on the first few seconds of the song have a bit of a "C.R.E.A.M." (the Wu-Tang song) sound to them.
Mac of course goes in lyrically, but I really don't know how I feel about this Diggy verse. It sounds like he's doing some kind of Nicki Minaj meets Slick Rick thing with his voice and I don't think I like it. Lyrically it's on point but it just sounds strange. To be honest I think Nicki Minaj ruined it for rappers when it comes to rapping in various accents.
