Despite Dr. Dre’s Rapping, Kendrick Lamar’s “The Recipe” is Still Dope (Listen)

First off, "The Recipe" is really dope, so let me get my Dr. Dre-related frustration out of the way. The long-awaited Kendrick Lamar and Dre collaboration, "The Recipe", doesn't feature a Dr. Dre beat? Really? Really though? Does anyone actually want to hear Dre rap? This is like Rosa Acosta coming over to your pool party and she wears a burqa the entire time. Like Lebron gently laying it up on a breakaway. If you're not going to do what you do best, what's the point? And I can't help but feel like the torch is being passes when I hear Dre intentionally copy Kendrick's style on that intro - craziness.

Ok, there, I think I've vented. On a positive note, Scoop Deville put together a hell of an instrumental - which samples Twin Sister's "Meet the Frownies" by the way. It's that perfect blend of sorrowful and hopeful; I can't wait to automatically delete the forty "Recipe" freestyles that are about to pop up in my inbox.

And there's just no one better than Kendrick, the man's style and lyricism is just on another level. Fuck "Detox", Kendrick's Interscope debut is the album that I'm really counting down the days until. Welcome to L.A.
