So for the past 24 hours the whole world has been under the control of “Control”. Seriously, I would hate to be an artist who had a project drop because there is now way it is going to get the attention it (hopefully) deserves. One artist, who just happened to be mentioned in “Control” - and also happens to be my candidate for someone who could give Kendrick a run for his money - dropped a lil’ something something for us that went drastically overlooked. That emcee would be none other than Big K.R.I.T. Now I know it is up for debate about if he could contend with Kendrick on the mic (perhaps an argument for another time) but what isn’t up for debate is the Mississippi native’s chops as a producer. Lost in all the “Control” hype, today, K.R.I.T. dropped the instrumentals to his classic tape, 4 Eva Na Day.

God damn, beat lovers are gonna eat this shit up. While this tape, and pretty much every other release from K.R.I.T. is on my iPhone (where only the most choice cuts go) I have to admit it has been a minute since I gave it a good listen. While the actual version, with K.R.I.T.’s vocals is my preferred method of K.R.I.T.-ing, this is still a great addition to the collection. I love his vocals, in my opinion, he has one of the most powerful, commanding flows in the game, but what really makes him special are his skills behind the boards.

With this instrumental tape, you can really hear how intricate, varied, and well constructed his beats are; is there a more well rounded artist in the game? That three-song lineup of “Boobie Miles”, “4EvaNaDay (Theme)”, and “Me And My Old School” is damn near untouchable; those three flawless songs, each one after the other, is one of my favorite sections from any project. So take a break from “Control” and enjoy a crash course in production from one of, if not the best dual-threat in the game.
