Loyal citizens of RefinedHype Nation know I have a strict "no freestyles" policy. (By "freestyle" I mean everyone and their grandmama rapping pre-writtens over the same suddenly popular beat. Not, you know, an actual freestyle.) But...you also know that over the years I've made some exceptions. Like, for example when one of the most enigmatic and talented emcees alive joins with the most powerful rapper alive to diss Drake over a Drake beat. So yeah, my hip-hop loving self just couldn't go to bed without knocking out a few random thoughts on Jay Electonica and Jay Z' "We Made It" freestyle. 

1) Old news now since Drake originally dropped this four months ago, but can we get more "Eastbound & Down" clips in rap songs please? First rapper to work "for your information I have full size balls" into a song gets themselves a post*.

2) I love y'all, but you really need to relax with all the "see Nathan, Jay Elec's album really is coming out you doubter" comments. Oh, because he dropped one song that won't be on the album and now a freestyle? Only in Elec's world does that count as momentum towards an album; I've seen people drop multiple full-fledged singles with videos and still not drop the album (cough, cough). Like it's totally inconcievable that he wakes up tomorrow and decides he'd rather fuck a billionaire than work on a rap album? Until he's got a pre-order link on iTunes, I'm continuing to treat Elec's album as mythical. 

3) Poor Jay Elec, this is the second time people are going to overlook his verse because another guy on the track said something controversial (the first time, obviously). So let me make sure I pause for a moment to acknowledge how dope his shit was. I'm going to need RapGenius and a Harvard theologian to decode this shit. 

4) And...onto Jay Z' verse. The first, larger insult to Drake is that Hov actually proves again that he's an all-time great on the mic rather than that "Pound Cake" poop sandwich he served up for Drizzy's album. Speaking of which: 

“Sorry Mr.** Drizzy for so much art talk, Silly me rappin’ about shit that I really bought.”

Oh shit, looks like someone wasn't too pleased with Drake's "that was supposed to be off the record" comments in the Rolling Stone interview. Specifically, "It's like Hov can't drop bars these days without at least four art references. I would love to collect [art] at some point, but I think the whole Rap/art world thing is getting kind of corny." 

I don't really see how Drake could possibly come back from this one, we're not talking about Common here. Hova would ether Aubrey in anything even remotely approaching beef; Jay's first shot would be a "you just my waiter" reference and that'd be the end of it. I've got eleven million dollars that says Drake just laughs it off and then gets choked up talking about how it's an honor to even be mentioned by Hova. 

And we're not even talking about how much better, technically, the second half of that verse is. Dopeness. 

So there you have it RefinedHype Nation. That should be plenty to get the comment section buzzing, let's do this thing. Nothing like some hip-hop drama to pass the time. Enjoy...

** Is Jay actually saying "Mrs. Drizzy"? Because now that I have Mrs. Drizzy in my head all I can hear is Mrs. Drizzy.
