Hater Alert: I Don’t Think J. Cole’s “Niggaz Know” Is The Greatest Song Ever

Here's the cycle we're stuck in. J. Cole has some very real haters, people who actively go out of their way to demean even his best work. Cole's hardcore fans, and believe me, the man's got some hardcore fans, respond to the hate by going overboard the other way, declaring even his average work in instant classic. The haters see all that overblown instant classic talk and respond with even stronger hate, which provokes even more overblown love, etc. etc. etc.

It's getting to be a man can't say something about a Jermaine record without feeling like he's choosing sides in a war. Case in point, this new "Niggaz Know" joint. There's never really been a doubt that Cole could rap, and he proves it yet again on this shit. Punchlines, flow, relatable lyricism, it's all there...so I'm a little surprised that I'm not feeling it more. That "on shit!" feeling I had when I first heard "Cole Summer" or "Chris Tucker"? It's just not there for me on this one...maybe it's the beat. For a producer as talented as Cole a beat looped so simply isn't blowing me away.

OR MAYBE I'M A HATER!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT'S IT, I HATE J. COLE!!! Whatever, fuck picking sides, I'm just going to continue to praise the Cole music I think deserves praise, hold him to high standards, and say when I feel like he hasn't lived up to those standards.

Another shot fired in the war of June 18; I'm not going to front, I can't wait to watch this shit go down. Unlike "Yeezus", you can pre-order "Born Sinner" right here if you're feeling so compelled. In the meantime, enjoy...
