I'll just be honest. I saw Hopsin before I ever heard his music, and one look at those white contacts and the only thing I could think was "gimmick rapper". Was it a fair assessment? No, but there are a lot of rappers out there, too many to possibly listen to, and like the rest of the world I make snap judgements to help me sort out what's worth my time and what's not.

So on the real, Hopsin's new "Ill Mind of Hopsin" video is the first time I've really, really taken the time to sit down and listen to the man's music, and I have to say I'm impressed. Regardless of what you think about his style, there's no way you can watch this and think that Hopsin can't rap. Plus, he's a far smarter dude than I (wrongly) assumed.



Does this mean I'm now a hardcore fan? No, not really. But it does man that from now on I'll take the time to listen to new Hopsin shit, and at the very least I've got some real respect for the man's skill. We'll just have to wait and see where it all goes from here.
