It's been so long by today's standards that Dr. Dre's "I Need a Doctor" leaked - or "should I say "leaked" - that I had almost forgotten about it...until the final version popped up yesterday. There's no substantial changes here: we've got the same Eminem verses, the same Skylar Grey hook and the same rock based beat, it's just actually mixed.
Unfortunately "I Need a Doctor" suffers from a touch of Timbaland syndrome - the headliner's rhymes are by far the weakest part of the cut. In fact, Em's "You saved my life no maybe it's time for me to save yours", and the entire second verse, is one of the more honest lines in hip-hop history. Dr. Dre needs a major hit, and at this point he needs Em to jump start his career again and make "Detox" a legitimate hit. With Alex da Kid and Skylar Grey, who also did "Love the Way You Lie" and T.I.'s "Castle Walls" behind the track history would suggest it'll be a hit, but I'm not so sure. Let's turn it over to RefinedHype Nation.
So here's the deal. The powers that be have let it be known that they'll bring the wrath of god, or at least the wrath of their highly annoying lawyers, down upon any bloggers who post download links. This is a throwaway track, i can't even make through em's verse and i love him. Although i felt the same way about his last album and look how well that did...what is a hit anyways these days?

The only time I get a "that might be a hit" feeling is when I hear that chorus. Chorus is epic. I doubt anyone could suffer through eminem's screaming and dr dre WEAK ASS VERSE enough though. Yeah it kinda gives you that hyped feeling, but at the same time....it just sucks. and 1st verse is one of the most homo-erotic verses em has ever dropped, particully because of how cheese it is. Where is that eminem wit and sarcasm?

Dre's verse was pretty terrible. I feel like Eminem's current style is played-out. Perhaps Dre could have gotten the boost he needs from this track back in August, but Love The Way You Lie, at least to me, has made me tired of this Eminem. No doubt Em has the capacity to evolve like he always has, but I don' think he can carry Dre by himself right now.
Couldn't agree more about the Timbaland Syndrome.

I think, like, it will be a hit for the pop crowd (same kinda thing as 'Coming Home'). I didn't want Detox to have stuff like this on, but it was inevitable, this is what sells at the moment.
Detox will inevitably have some BANGERS tho, y'all know this.

Sadly I think this would have a better chance without Dre on the verse, and if Eminem switched up the subject matter. It's a well made record, but I just don't think that many people want to hear Em rhyme and how he needs to help Dre get a hit.
