After a week long hiatus due to illness, I have returned to you Refined Hype Nation; cue the cheers and celebration (and I’m sure a few boos of course). Granted I am not yet 100% and still cracked out on all different sorts of medicine, including a certain kind that goes well with sprite, but a return is a return. I don’t have the brainpower to bring you something long an in-depth, but it’s been far too long since I have written anything and am going through withdrawal. Instead of hiding until I am back at full strength, I wanted to drop by and still share some cool shit with you because getting y’all amped for something is the best part for my job. Thanks to Childish Gambino, I have the perfect quick hitter; a trailer for his short film, "Clapping For The Wrong Reasons".



Now the trailer doesn’t give you any insight whatsoever into the plot or big details about the film, but there is still plenty to get pumped for. First off, there is an appearance from Danielle Fisher, better known as Topanga from Boy Meets World; SOLD! If just the thought of Topanga doesn’t give your teenage tummy butterflies, would it help if I told you she would appear alongside porn star Abella Anderson. Never thought I’d live to see the day where Topanga and a porn star are side-by-side (holds breath for a "Cruel Intentions" scene).

Don’t think this is some sleazy, half-assed short film designed around boobs to get your attention, there is plenty here for the music nerds too! In this sub one minute trailer you have Trinidad James playing Connect Four with Chance The Rapper, and several awkwardly funny moments with Gambino. There are a few more cameos too, but I am not quite sure who they are - the guy eating smores with Childish at the 15 second mark and the dude in the snorkel mask - I don’t think it's Donald Glover because he is jacked and has short hair. There is so much here to chew on and the more I replay it and catch something new, the more excited I am.

Aside from the gimmicks and cameos, I fully trust Gambino on this one. The dude is actually an actor, he is on "Community", appeared in his own quirky independent movie, "Mystery Team", and while I haven’t seen it yet, is in the new movie "The To Do List". Some actors love to make stupid mini-movies or skits to promo an album but this feels a little more natural than that. Will it be groundbreaking? Probably not, but I’m sure Donald can me it quirky, fun, and entertaining. Also, Hiro Murai, who has directed videos for The Shins, David Guetta, Bloc Party, and Earl Sweatshirt, directed it.

Oh yeah, did I mention Topanga?
