Catching Up With SL Jones, DJ Burn One, Rittz & Freddie Gibbs (Listen & Download)

I don't know how I missed the fact that there SL Jones and DJ Burn One were turning out some new music, and that said new music featured the likes of Rittz and Freddie Gibbs, but I did. My bad, consider this a catch up then. And even better, SL provided some textual info far more interesting than anything I could invent. Dope music and I get to be lazy? Fuck yeah, let's do this thing.

SL. Jones ft. Rittz & Ebony Love - "M.D.M.A.": "M.D.M.A. is about addiction, about the way it can make you feel on top of the world and the way it can tear you apart. People mostly associate addiction with hard drugs, but you can be addicted to anything, and when I first heard this beat — the way it gave me a rush — I knew it was perfect for getting that point across. This was one of the first beats DJ Burn One made for Paraphernalia. Rittz stopped by the studio one day and we were playing each other new tracks. I told him I had a song that was perfect for him, and once he heard it, he was all for it. Ebony Love came through and graced us on the hook. She’s so full of inspiration, I honestly believe she could make any song better."

SL Jones ft. Freddie Gibbs - "M.E.M.P.H.I.S.": With M.E.M.P.H.I.S. everything really started with Burn One. We were kicking it over at his studio, Five Points, and he just started chopping up that crazy MJG sample. A lot of our inspiration comes from Memphis rap, so we titled the song like that out of respect. Just like with Rittz on M.D.M.A., we thought Freddie Gibbs would kill this beat, so we reached out and he killed it. He represents that uncompromising gangster shit that I relate to, that so many people identify with. And even for the people who haven’t lived that life — they can still appreciate the experience."

SL Jones and Burn One's collaborative album, "Paraphenalia", is allegedly dropping later today. I'll update with a link to the album when it does - until then, enjoy:
