Will Radio Play Bruno Mars’ Drug Reference on “It Will Rain”? (Listen & Download)

Posted by Nathan S. on 09/27/11 | Filed under Downloads, Bruno Mars
At this point Bruno Mars could take a dump on a microphone and it'd go straight to #1. The man's got that rare ability to make songs that sound soft enough to make women fall in love but tough enough to let guys admit they actually like his music. I don't think there's any question that his new release "It Will Rain" will be a smash.

In typical RefinedHype fashion I'm actually most interested in a very small point. I gave up trying to figure out what radio does and doesn't censor years ago. They went back and removed Biggie's World Trade Center reference, even though he made it years before 9/11. They let the Ying Yang Twins scream "skeet skeet skeet!" and then remove "rubber", a reference to safe sex, from Dr. Dre's "Crack a Bottle". (My in depth radio censorship investigation is here and here.)

So what will radio do with the opening line to "It Will Rain"? "If you ever leave me baby, leave some morphine at the door / cause it will take a lot of medication..." It's not exactly like morphine references have become commonplace, but still, I say they love Bruno so much that they leave it in. God I wish Vegas would let me bet on shit like this.
