It's Wednesday and you know what that means - time to start warming up your liver with a few drinks before Friday night arrives! it's time for another edition of "RefinedHype Nation Answers", in which you realize once again that you're not the only one who sits around obsessing about hip-hop.

This week, I wanted to bring it back to a suggestion from SamShank in the comments for "Greatest First Line", something that's a cousin to that question: "What's the Greatest Song Intro of All-Time?"

First, some clarification, because the line between a song intro and the first line of a song can be blurrier than you'd think. A song intro could be a movie clip, it could be a sample, a skit, some ad-lib talking, basically everything before someone starts rapping.

The line can still be tough to tell - for example I'd consider Kendrick's "If Pirus and Crips all got along..." in the beginning of "madd city" more of an intro than a first line, but you could easily argue the other way. We'll just have to take those grey area examples on a case by case basis.

As for my pick...I literally spent the last hour of my life trying to decide, and I just don't think I can. It comes down to two possible choices for me.

Especially considering the impact the song had, it doesn't get any better than Biggie's "This album is dedicated to all the teachers who told me I'd never amount to nothin..." intro for "Juicy" (which, not coincidentally, I think also contains of the greatest first lines):



BUT, on a personal level, the "Regulators, we regulate any stealin..." clip in the beginning of "Regulate" just brings back so many memories. That song dropped 19 years ago, and since that fateful day in 1994, not a week of my life has gone by without someone calling me Nate Dogg. Plus, "Young Guns" is the shit.



If I could literally only pick one, as much as it hurts my soul to say it, I'd have to go with "Juicy". But just know that "Regulate" will always be near and dear to my heart. Picking between those two is like picking between fucking Tia or Tamera.

Alright RefinedHype Nation, y'all never cease to impress me with your picks, and I won't lie, I've got high expectations for this one. Have at it people...
