Travis Barker & The Cool Kids “Jump Down” (Listen & Download)

I think I speak for a lot of hip-hop nation when I say that when I first heard Travis Barker (a.k.a. the drummer from Blink-182, a.k.a. the dude who was married to Shannan Moakler a.k.a. the dude who was in that plane crash with DJ AM) was getting into hip-hop I was nervous. But then I heard his work with Bun B on "Late Night Creepin", and then T.I. gave him a co-sign by putting him on "You Know Who", and I had to admit I was impressed. The man knows his way around both a rock and rap recording studio.

It's really not that surprising that his upcoming album, cleverly titled "Give the Drummer Some", which is set to include RZA, Weezy, Raekwon and more, sounds pretty dope so far. If you haven't heard anything from the project so far new leak "Jump Down" is as good of a place to start as any. The beat, which Barker produced, has that ill live drum feel without going overboard, and while I've found The Cool Kids slow, retro rhyme style to be a little tiresome lately, they once again sound fresh on "Jump Down". I'm not completely sold on Barker, but I'm buying more by the minute.
