Lupe Fiasco Responds to Soulja Boy With Some “S.L.R. (Super Lyrical Rap)” (Listen & Download)

This is RefinedHype, so let me start off by clarifying my own headline. For those who mercifully missed it, in a XXL interview a few days back Soulja Boy, when asked about his musical style, said, “I don’t want to be super-Lupe-Fiasco-lyrical and n***** don’t know what the fuck I’m talking about.” Predictably the interwebs exploded: "Oh shit! Souja Boy's firing shots at Lupe! Beef!!!" Really? That just sounds like Soulja Boy saying what we all already know; Lupe's rhymes go completely over his head and that's why he keeps his rhymes so ignorant. How is that breaking news? Let's all calm down people.

Even if it's not "beef", apparently it was the kick in the ass Lupe Fiasco needed to release some new music (just like MTV's snub inspired "Fire" last year). Produced by Soundtrakk, and beginning with an incredibly appropriate CRS sample of "Everybody Nose", the six-plus minutes of lyricism that Soulja prompted goes by the name "S.L.R. (Super Lyrical Rap)" and lives up to it's name in every sense of the word. Actually, in the grand scheme of Lupe music this isn't that lyrically deep, it's certainly no "The Cool", but the point has more than been made.

And now, let's close with the mandatory Lupe Fiasco release dates that won't stick portion of the program. "S.L.R." is off his upcoming " Friend Of The People Mixtape", which will hopefully drop before I die, and "Lasers" is tentatively scheduled to drop in March of 2011 (a.k.a. it's not dropping in March 2010). In the meantime....
