Ol' Dirty Bastard has been on my mind a lot lately. On Wednesday I felt strangely compelled to break down his quasi-comprehensible but classic opening verse on "Shimmy Shimmy Ya", and on Tuesday we were treated to the supremely ironic new posthumous anti-drug track from ODB, "Say NO". All of that was an unintentional but perhaps destined lead-up to today, a day that sadly marks the five year anniversary of ODB's passing after a drug overdose.
As a tribute to Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s on the anniversary of his tragic death, XXLMag.com rolled through the infamous Brooklyn Zoo with ODB’s former A&R and longtime friend Dante Ross to hear his craziest memories of the beloved Wu-Tang rapper, including his inspiration to use his welfare card as an album cover, the time he jumped out of a window and an incident involving one of LL Cool J's gold records and some urine.
