Xavier Rudd – Spirit Bird

A couple things right from the get-go here. First things first, take notice of the title of this track. When you think of “Spirit Bird” you’re immediately thrown into some hippy-ass, Edward Sharpe-esque outdoor world where you’re climbing Machu Picchu in attempt to find the underlying meaning of life. I can fully guarantee that if you’re searching for the meaning of your life, go outside and press play on this jam. You’ll have an answer within 7 minutes, no question.
Take a look at the basis for “Spirit Bird” below in the words of the man himself. Xavier, you’re gonna spin off this planet, I love it, keep at it!
“One old-woman spirit bird locked eyes with me and began to creak and groan her message of time passed and changes to her country and the fear in her heart. It was all very heavy, and as she looked through me with her eyes and passed this message I felt like I sank into the earth, and my mind was racing with imagery of things that were clear, but that I had never seen previously on my journey. Almost like I was looking through someone else’s eyes with someone else’s memories. That night I wrote the first half of “Spirit Bird” in the sand on a sacred beach. It poured out of me and was quite emotional.”
