Tupac Shooter Confesses to Not Shooting Tupac

(First and foremost, huge, huge props to Miss Info who did the bulk of this research. Incredibly there are still some actual journalists out there.)

A couple days ago the internet exploded with the news that Isaac Davis, currently serving a life sentence on multiple charges, had confessed to killing Tupac! As the Huffington Post put it, “Inmate Admits to Shooting, Killing Tupac.” The source of their information was a letter/confession/rambling note that Davis wrote to AllHipHop.com. 

Actually, now that I look at it a little closer, Davis actually confessed to shooting Tupac in 1994 (otherwise known as the “Against All Odds” shooting), not killing him in Vegas three years later. But hey, no big deal, those are basically the same thing.

Actually, now that I look at it a little closer, Davis didn’t actually confess to shooting Tupac. Nowhere in his letter does he mention the shooting at all, saying instead only that he was hired to rob Pac.

So yes, it looks like most of the media outlets reporting that Davis confessed to shooting (or even killing) Pac never actually took the time to read the letter. At least they bothered to double check Davis’ claim that he was confessing now because the statute of limitations on his crimes had passed.

Actually, not that we look a little closer, it turns out New York doesn’t have a statute of limitations on Class A felonies. But hey, I get it, you reporters are busy. You can’t be bothered to do a little thing like…your jobs.

Here’s what an actually accurate headline would have been: “Possibly Lying Inmate Admits to Role in Tupac Robbery”. But hey, never let a little thing like the truth get in the way of a good story.
