In the latest of an ongoing series that will include the best…or worst…fails of the week from the world of hip-hop, sports, pop culture and beyond, I examine Kanye’s fiasco of a “Today Show” appearance, 50’s new, incredibly unlikely collabo, J. Cole’s non-existent mixtape and more…
I was going to devote today’s entire Fails column to this fiasco, but in the end I didn’t want to give Kanye even more attention, so let’s try to get the cornucopia of fails that was Kanye’s appearance on the “Today Show” into one segment:
Kanye: When I first heard that Kanye was furious over how the “Today Show” treated him I assumed something crazy had happened. Maybe Matt Lauer made a yo momma joke. Maybe they brought up the nude pics. Certainly something major must have happened, right? Nope. Yeezy was primarily angry that they played related video clips in the background while he was talking…as every news outlet does….constantly….for every person they interview. But of course Yeezy acted like it was part of an elaborate conspiracy designed to make him look bad. Plus, what the fuck is he doing apologizing to Bush? Apparently he empathizes with Bush’s pain because he was also called a racist and vilified after the Taylor Swift episode. You empathize with George Bush? Empathize!?! You, sir, interrupted a popular white girl on an awards show. He, on the other hand, was directly or indirectly responsible for the death of thousands of people following Hurricane Katrina. Those are not equivalent things! AAAAHHHH!!! Way to ruin the one moment you truly put aside your own ego and spoke the truth. It’s a good thing he makes incredible music, because sweet baby jesus is Mr. West an aggravating human being.
Matt Lauer: Ok, we get it. You had an exclusive interview with George Bush. That doesn’t mean you have to make every question about it. Shut up Matt.
George Bush: Wait, what? The worst Bush has ever felt was when Kanye called him a racist? Really, that was the worst you felt? The barrage of criticism surrounding two endless wars, a completely collapsed economy and the aforementioned Katrina, to say the least, didn’t bother you, but being called a racist by a rapper really hit home? Really? Really? I give up.

Yeah Kanye Didn't owe anyone an apology and I think he was leaning towards that during the interview but the way Lauer painted the picture, he made it seem that Bush didn't deserve to be called a racist. I think Kanye was going to say "sorry, I said that because I felt strongly about it. But what I said still stands". I think Ye felt very uneasy because, lets face it, Matt Lauer can be a real D-Bag to certain artist. So when they played the clip he felt like he was being attacked, I understand that. I'm sure he wants to put September 14, 2009 behind him. |
