Fails of the Week: Boycotting Rihanna & Chris Brown, Too $hort Apologizes for Too $hort & MorePosted by Nathan S. on 02/17/12 | Filed under Top Stories, Features, Fails of the Week, Fails |
Last week I covered Too $hort’s “Fatherly Advice” video for XXL, in which he gave young boys some very explicit advice (involving fingers) for getting young girls to like them. And….cue the outrage.
Nearly every parental and educational organization in the country freaked the fuck out on XXL, causing the (former) hip-hop media heavyweight to pull the video and apologize, suspending the people who made the video and saying that they never intended to cause such a controversy.
Let me get this straight. You invited Too $hort….motherfucking Too $hort….the guy who did this and this....to your offices, asked him to give kids advice, filmed it, edited it, uploaded into your player, posted it online, blasted it out, and this was all a mistake?
And to top it off, Short Dawg himself issued an apology:
“When I got on camera I was in Too $hort mode and had a lapse of judgement. I would never advise a child or young man to do these things, it’s not how I get down.”
What? No, that’s exactly how you get down! You’re motherfucking Too $hort! There’s literally hundreds of hours of audio and video of you advising men to do all types of thing to women that I can’t print here. That’s the entire reason XXL asked you to do the video, because there was a 111% chance that you’d say something exactly like what you said.
It’s never going to happen, but I wish XXL would just be honest:
“Listen, we invited Too $hort to do a video for us because we knew he’d say something controversial that would get us a ton of video views, and it worked….right up until the point when the boycott threats no longer made it worth it. That’s when we decided to apologize - and to be honest we’re going to do some very similar shit in a couple months.”
Each week we will send you a recap of our top stories, downloads, and videos.
