The ILLZ Gets Ill on “Melfi” (Listen and Download)

Regular readers of these pages know RefinedHype values originality above everything else, and that's why I've had my ear on The ILLZ for a minute. Born in the Dominican Republic and raised in New Jersey, ILLZ is breaking boundaries in ways that even your average boundary breaker wouldn't dream of. (I first heard him flow over a Radiohead sample. ILLZ isn't literally the first person to use the shamefully undersampled Radiohead, but he might have done it better than anyone I've ever heard.)

If you've never had Illz in your eardrums you can start with his new cut "Melfi." On "Melfi" The ILLZ takes us through a dark journey with a light at the end of the tunnel, showing his the vulnerable side by expressing the doubts and pressure that consume his thoughts. Anyone that has ever had a goal which seems impossible to reach can relate to the feelings of failure and finding the strength to move forward expressed by The ILLZ.
