It’s October in a few days and at the moment it’s great to be a sports fan. With a quarter of the college football season behind us, three weeks of the NFL finished, playoffs a week away in baseball, NBA camps starting and constant news everyday regarding just about every other sport topic known to man, how couldn’t you be excited? With so many things to talk about this week let’s get to the small talk!
This week will start to separate the pretenders from the contenders. Alabama vs. Florida, Texas A&M vs. Oklahoma St, Wisconsin vs. Michigan St and Stanford vs. Oregon all play this week. Also keep an eye on Miami vs. Clemson, Navy vs. Air Force, Michigan vs. Indiana, Va Tech vs. North Carolina St and Penn St vs. Iowa.

Boise St. beat another ranked opponent in Oregon St, this time by two touchdowns. Like everyone else in the nation conference games now take precedent for the Broncos. Boise must now gain style points to even have a shot at the title game but received a little help with Nevada entering the top 25 this week. That Fresno St loss to Ole Miss didn’t help though.
I bet you Dez Bryant wish he carried those pads after all. What do you think hurts the most to Dez, the broken ribs he’s suffering from or
the $54,869 bill? Looks like Roy Williams may be the number WR this week in Dallas after all.

about this. Jeff Garcia is playing better than half the QB’s in the NFL with those stats. I guess we can call him a veteran who is well traveled, literally.
With NBA camps opening this week I have the big three on the mind, but not the trio you’re thinking of. With a New Year come expectations, so for Greg Oden, Kevin Love and Yi Jianlian it’s a brand new year, turn the corner and show your worth!
The next big three who need to show their worth… Hasheem Thabeet, Tyrus Thomas and Jerryd Bayless.
Are the Nuggets serious?
If reports are true they have not only balked on the 4 team trade deal everyone has been talking about but they have turned down a few trades. The Philadelphia 76ers reportedly offered Evan Turner, Jason Kapono, Thadeus Young and future draft choices for Melo and if that’s not crazy enough how about the Golden State Warriors offer of Monta Ellis, Andris Biedrins and Reggie Williams or Brendan Wright.
Speaking of the Warriors, the
decision to relieve Don Nelson of the head coaching duties was the best move the team could have made. Don as fun as it was to watch his teams needed to be replaced with a more demanding coach. You can also include defensive minded and better strategist! As much as Keith Smart is not the most recognized name I think it was good move by the team to hire him. He is respected by the team and worked with a lot of their young guys on the squad individually. Solid move!
I just want to know did Gilbert Arenas need to be cleared to be at
the event.
CC Sabathia and Roy Halladay take the Cy Young for my money but the real question is what happened to Ubaldo Jiminez?

Can anyone tell me what’s going on these days? It was 115 degrees in certain areas of Los Angeles Monday and it has been in the 90’s the whole week. Imagine if Los Angeles had a NFL team and they played on Monday night, it might have been close to 120 degrees on the field! I’ll admit it’s so hot I’m imagining things!
2 Minute Drill, kill the clock version…
Just about everyone is blaming Garret Hartley for missing a simple 29 yard field goal and the Saints loss. Sure Hartley missed the field goal that would have won the game but a lot of people are over looking what happen to get to that point. The Saints had a 1st and 10 on the ATL 26 yard line and had just completed 2 out of 3 passes for more than 10 yards to get down into field goal range. All of a sudden the offense stopped playing to win and started playing to hold on enough to have a shot to win. Two runs by Chris Ivory equaling 1 yard and a screen pass to Devery Henderson which gained 14 and gave the Saints the first down at the ATL 11 yard line followed. Why run the ball twice basically up the middle to position the spot of the ball and then get bailed out by Henderson on a good play and do nothing with it. It was 1st and 10 on the 11 yard line, why wouldn’t you take a couple of shots towards the end zone to see if you can score a TD? Instead you try and kick a field goal to win the game on 1st down. The Saints quit playing and it back fired on them! I hate when teams don’t stay aggressive and play not to lose. The Saints didn’t play not to lose but they sure played timid when they just marched down the field. Hopefully they learned something from the situation.
Don’t look now David Garrard but your team just claimed Trent Edwards off of waivers. Edwards, one day after getting cut by the Buffalo Bills was claimed by the Jacksonville Jaguars who must now pay the rest of the 1.65 million dollar base pay
owed to him. For Garrard it’s a definite message sent his way for him to step up and get the job done or receive the same treatment Edwards just got. Garrard has been up and down as a QB the last couple years and the Jags seem to be just about tired of it. As far as the Bills go, I totally understand why the move was made. It’s been 4 years and Edwards has had plenty of opportunities to show why he was the guy to take the team to the next level. Obviously they felt it was time to move on and explore other options, Edwards hasn’t been the best QB for them. This will allow the team to search for their guy and allow Edwards another opportunity to show he may be a good QB after all.
Michael Vick looks to be serious this time around. He had another ridiculous showing against the Jags as he accounted for 4 touchdowns, 291 yards and 30 yards on the ground. He seems to have the team’s attention and respect the same way Donovan had for so many years. The great part about it is they will face off against each other this week when the Washington Redskins visit the Eagles on Sunday. McNabb back in Philly, Vick against McNabb, the Skins vs. the Eagles, don’t blink.
If the Washington Nationals didn’t want to bring Adam Dunn back why did they not trade him before the deadline? The Minnesota Twins, Chicago White Sox, LA Angels and a number of other teams were interested. If the Nationals don’t sign Dunn they will have made a huge mistake. They could have gotten some serious pieces to their puzzle; just another bad scene in the drama that is the Nationals.
