It’s Bigger Than Hip-Hop: RIP Esbe the 6th St. Bully

When hip-hop is your life, as it is mine, it's easy to think that the world exists solely in the beats and lyrics pouring through your headphones. But behind every note, every bar, is a real person, a human being. So that's why when my phone rang at midnight with the news that Esbe the 6th St. Bully (of The League of Extraordinary Gz) had passed away the news hit hard.

As much as I mourned the passing of Pimp C, Pimp C only ever existed in my headphones. But the Bully was a real person to me, a man I had shared a drink with. A man I had watched tear up the stage, a man I was shooting the shit with literally a week ago at A3C. I can't claim to have know Esbe well, but what relatively little I saw and heard revealed nothing but a dope artist and even better person.

So as sad as it is that the world lost a talented emcee who passed away before the world truly got to hear his talent, it's even sadder that the world lost another good person, The League lost a brother and his family lost a son and a father. It's bigger than hip-hop. RIP Octavis Berry.

Fuck a moment of silence, what better way to remember a musician than with a moment of music?
