Rappers are not inherently role models, but they do have the ability to make a real impact, for better or worse, on everyone who listens to their music. While most emcees run from that responsibility, or naively deny its existence, Rapsody's stepping up. The Jamla emcee's commitment to making both dope music and making a positive impact makes her one of my favorite artists working. If I get to simultaneously feed RefinedHype Nation's need for quality music and help give my daughter a rap role model, it doesn't get any better for me. And yes, I know I'm rarely just straight up sincerely positive on these pages, but this is one of those rare times.

Case in point, along with her brand new flick for "Believe Me", today Rap dropped the album cover to her upcoming "The Idea of Beautiful" album along with an accompanying message:


“Ndibulele Nqeni and Lowethu Zembe are the two little girls on the cover who live in Soweto, South Africa. 9th Wonder met them while he was touring in Johannesburg and took that picture. I look forward to meeting them when I tour there this month. I will be donating cash and other gifts to them, as well as other children in South Africa for representing my 'Idea Of Beautiful'. This is like the beginning of my community work; I've been wanting to do with the youth for a long time. I work hard to be a great emcee, but I also want to be an even better role model to young girls like Ndibulele and Lowethu.” - Rapsody

"The Idea of Beautiful" will be dropping via the mothership on August 28. Until then, enjoy "Believe Me" and remember, it's bigger than hip-hop.
