The Protracktorz ft. The Incomparable Shakespeare, Rack Lo, Wi$e & Thirstin Howl “Cookies & Cream”

I pride myself on being able to write just about anything, but for this week's "New Music Tuesdays", the dipped in milk "Cookies & Cream", I couldn't possible provide the kind of back story that The Incomparable Shakespeare laid down to me in an email. So without further ado, I turn things over to Shake:

"This week's song isn't a solo joint at all, but a collab brought to you by the good folks the Protracktorz: those zany producers who I dropped the controversial "Skinny Jeans" video with last year. Like our previous song, this again deals with fashion. Specifically Ralph Lauren. And yes, I dropped the "Rugby, Knits & Polo's Freestyle" earlier this year. This one is special because I'm joined by the founders of the "Lo-Lives", the popular street gang from Brooklyn that not only popularized the brand, but started urban fashion as we know it. Thirstin Howl isn't just a fashion icon, but an underground legend who's appeared on "Sound Bombing", "Lyricist Lounge", and just about anything you can imagine. Rack Lo, co-founder of the "Lo-Lives", goes 2nd on the track. Finally Wi$e rounds out the posse cut with the 3rd verse.

This song for me is culturally relevant because everyone is claiming "Lo" but have no idea what it really means. People went to jail and died over Lo in the late 80's and early 90's. By no means am I glorifying crime, but I think its unfair that all these new artists never acknowledge the architects or their contribution to Hip-Hop. I've said it before, but I have to reiterate. Their influence can be traced back from Grand Puba to Zhigge to Raekwon to Fabolous, to Just Blaze to Kanye, all of whom respect the culture. These new jacks though....that's another story completely."
