Man on the Moon: End of Day (Scene 3 - Simple As)

(Editor's note: RefinedHype is proud to present the third scene in our very own Jacques Morel's script for "Man on the Moon: End of Day", a screenplay accompaniment to Kid Cudi's groundbreaking album. Scene 3: Simple As

EXT. CAR. DAY.

SCOTT is driving a car. In the passenger seat, a 10 Deep bookbag is seen. Barely visible in the backseat is a suitcase. SCOTT is wearing a red jacket draped to his sides revealing a white shirt. SCOTT is smoking a joint.

CLOSE UP SCOTT’S MOUTH

Smoke billows slowly out of SCOTT’s mouth as the joint leaves it. It is quickly sucked back in. He blows smoke rings out of his mouth.

BACK TO SCENE

SCOTT taps the steering wheel with his left hand. He places the joint in his mouth, keeps it there, and moves his hand downward.

INSERT SCOTT’S HAND

SCOTTS hand moves the radio dial up a few clicks. On the radio, the words appear in digital type saying, Kid Cudi – “Day N Nite”.

BACK TO SCENE

SCOTT continues driving. The car slows down as it pulls up to a red light. A car pulls up next to him.

SCOTT’S POV

A very attractive girl sits in the passenger seat next to him. She is an Hispanic woman with flowing black hair, it is layered. She is looking upwards applying her makeup in the mirror. SCOTT peers over the side of his window to see the type of car.

INSERT ADJACENT CAR.

The words NISSAN 350Z appear on the passenger side front fender.

BACK TO SCENE

The girl turns to look at SCOTT. Her hair follows the turning of her neck. He smiles. She scrunches her face and continues looking forward. SCOTT’s face visibly contorts in a sign of displeasure. The light then turns green. SCOTT accelerates down the street.

SCOTT
(angrily)
Fuck that yo. You’ll be back.
You will eventually want me
too! And I’ll turn your ass
down. Not really…I’d still
have sex with you. I WISH I
could have sex with you.

SCOTT takes a drag from his joint. He exhales onto the dashboard. The smoke plumes over the plastic.

SCOTT
(definitively)
I’m Kid CUDI! I curse like
a sailor, and I smoke weed! Lots
of weed. Shit! Nigga, I am
smoking right now.

SCOTT’s right hand holds up the joint. He holds it in front of his face. His mouth curls slightly into a smile.

SCOTT
Well
(pause)
as we speak I am not smoking
good shit at all. More like
crap. And the seeds are giving me
a headache, but, I will get
over it. Yea…its actually
pre-TT-y shitty.

SCOTT brings the joint to his mouth. He puffs again.

SCOTT looks upwards.

SCOTT’S POV

We see a car moving at a high rate of speed towards the car. The last image seen on screen is a car closing in on the car. CRASH.

COMMON (V.O)
As our hero seems to be
dreaming in peace, a dark chapter
unfolds throwing Scott into
the most eerie and unstable part
of his imagination. So intense
he cannot tell his dreams from
reality. This is the rise of
the night terrors....

FADE TO BLACK
