On his Peter Rosenberg interview Mac Miller said that he almost never goes out when he's touring, preferring instead to stay on the tour bus and record new shit, which is how I'm guessing we ended up with "These Dayz (Dope Awprah)". This is the kind of shit you can only come up with at 4 AM after smoking enough weed to hotbox a Costco.



After a few listens I'm divided on "These Dayz". On one hand, this is definitely some experimental shit, and props to Mac for really making the kind of music no one would expect him to make. On the other hand, it's got slam poetry, "what if this is all a dream, man?", written all over it - there's 16-year-old stoners everywhere just got their minds blown.

On the whole I think this is a good thing - hip-hop's better off when Mac stays away from the Chris Brown assisted, party jams I'm sure 100 people are pressing him to make. If this is any indication of what his upcoming "Watching Movies With The Sound Off" album will sound like, at the very least I'll be legitimately interested in hearing it.
