Lupe Fiasco Says a Lot of “Words That I Never Said” (Listen & Download)

Lupe Fiasco Words That I Never Said
I haven't been this confused since I stumbled across that "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant" show. (Seriously, how the f**k do you not know you were pregnant?) When I saw that Lupe Fiasco has a new single titled "Words That I Never Said", produced and written by recent hitmakers Alex da Kid and Skylar Grey (see also, "Love the Way You Lie", "Castle Walls", "I Need a Doctor", etc.) I thought Lupe was compromising with Atlantic and finally putting out the radio hit he's so far refused to truly do. After all, the man passed on "Nothin' On You".

Nope. Instead, this is a giant middle finger to radio. While Alex and Skylar clearly meant this to be a romantic/break-up song when they wrote it, Lupe goes in the completely opposite direction and fills the verses with some of his most political work to date. Good luck hearing a song that starts with the following lines on Power 106 anytime soon: "I really think the war on terror is a bunch of bullshit / just a poor excuse for you to use up all your bullets."

As I wrote on Wiz' "Roll Up", we're too quick to excuse wack music under the "well, at least it will be a hit" excuse, so I've got enormous respect for Lupe sticking to his guns despite the pressure from the label. Who knows if "Lasers" will ever actually drop in March as intended, but in the meantime, I'm applauding the man.

This is a great song, maybe it won't have a lot of radio play, but at this point in his career, I don't see him really caring.

Lovin' it. I see this having a potential on the charts. With skylar girls will love it, most of them ignoring the verses and guys love what lupe is saying.

Yeah, I think Lupe may have hit the jackpot with this. Beats as dope as 'pop' beats go, the hook is whats fashionable at the moment, and Lupe destroys it as per.

Alot of people are looking for hope in this current climate, Lupe might just be what people are looking for, and Skylar Grey featuring just means a LOT more people will hear this.

Brilliant.

I've never been a big fan of Lupe, but even I have to respect this. Not only is he sticking it to his label for screwing him over, but he made a damn good song out of it as well. I'm really hoping this song blows up.

I don't think there's anyway this is going to be a radio hit, fucking good. Since when did we let the radio determine what we considered dope? Fuck that. Lupe's making music outside the normal corporate bounds, and that's what makes his music so powerful.

And that's what I sound like when I'm inspired by dope rap.

If I want to get schooled on topics that Lupe rap about, I'll watch Jon Stewart. It's more entertaining. I can't believe an A&R wasted this song on Lupe. Oh well...
