Lupe Fiasco Before There Were Lasers Mixtape Cover

In 1993 it would have sounded crazy to say that the skinny, oddly named, complexly rhyming young kid who called himself Lupe Fiasco would someday become a rap superstar, and yet, here were are. Now I know we all like to pretend like we were listening to Lupe since the beginning (dudes are like, "Yo, was listening to Lupe when he was in his mom's womb"), but the truth is that for most, myself included, pre-"Food & Liquor" Fiasco is a bit of a mystery. No longer. Thanks to the good folks at The Aphilliates, and especially DJ Moondawg, we now have "Before There Were Lasers", a compilation of the best of Lupe's rawer, non-radio ready material, including several previously unreleased tracks. If you're a serious Lupe fan, or someone new to his music looking to get caught up, this one is a must listen.

Seriously, what were the odds that Lupe would make it this big? I think Vegas would have gone with 250 to 1 odds, easy.

It's funny because I have cats trying to school me all the time, then act surprised when I pull out some joint from '04 back when I HATED Lupe that they never even heard of...

True story, my boy Jason from Chicago tried to put us on like, "This dude is sooo fuckin' ill, son!" and we all felt like, "meh". Back then he was just another gangter rapper to us, who was a little better at rhyming.

Little did we know how hard we'd be stanning later on... And how much gangster shit we'd be listening to... Lol!
