Kendrick Lamar References the F**k Out of Kanye on “HiiiPoWeR” (Listen & Download)

Kendrick Lamar
It wasn't long ago Kendrick Lamar was a dope but relatively unknown rapper doing homemade "Empire State of Mind" remix videos. And then he dropped the undeniably dope 'Overly Dedicated" mixtape, Dr. Dre gave him the golden touch and just like that he's the new "next savior of hip-hop". As always, that's a heavy burden to carry - and who says it needs saving? - but if new single, the vowel enhanced "HiiiPoWeR" is any indication, at the very least the game's better for having him in it.

Produced by the other "next savior of hip-hop" J. Cole, "HiiiPoWeR" is a lyrically intense cut that contains a reference to nearly every track on Kanye's 'My Dark Beautiful Twisted Fantasy"/the Good Friday series. (Bonus points for those who list the references in the comments below.) I'm gonna have to listen to this at least 20 more times before I can truly process it, but in the meantime I won't hesitate to say it's dope. I'm officially awaiting his debut album "#Section80", which ironically will probably drop before "Detox".

As long as we're here, the last time I saw Kendrick the two of us were in the middle of a fight at our SXSW showcase. Good times.

I love it. Very nice work from J. Cole too.

I hear Gorgeous, So Appalled, Power (of course), and general Pusha T-like references.

Kendrick Lamar is definitely the guy to watch out for out at the west coast right now. Job well done here.

For the record, I wasn't implying that Kendrick was biting Kanye, this is completely his own, but it's obviously intensely inspired by Kanye.

The a capella intro echoes the intro to MBDTF, as does the distortion. Obviously there's a Power reference, along with "five star dishes" section on So Appalled. And the "Illuminati" section is clearly a Yeezy reference.

That's all I caught. If I missed one obviously let me know.
