Kanye, Swizz, Jay-Z, Pusha T, CyHi & RZA Are “So Appalled” (Listen & Download)

Another Monday, another recap of the madness that went down Friday night via Kanye West's ongoing Good Friday series. This week we get the darkly tuned, guest feature heavy new cut "So Appalled", featuring verses from Ye, Jay, Swizz (kind of), Pusha T, CyHi Da Prynce and RZA (kind of). We've got a lot of ground to cover here. We'll have to break it down outline style.

The Beat: Let's take a moment to recognize what a dope producer Kanye is. Unlike Swizz (more on him later) he's completely flipped his style from the kinds of beats that first made him famous (sped up soul samples). Goddamn this is nice.

Swizz Beatz: Why does anyone ever let him speak on a track. Has he ever made a record better? Ever? This shit is fucking ridiculous. (See what I did there?) What an albatross.

Kanye: An oddly humorous/light-hearted verse for a record that sounds so dark. On a side note, I knew I had heard that "Spalding...balls" reference before. A little research and....yep. Drake: "Oh they know I ball like spalding (spalding...)." Oh, and Trey used it too on a "Best I Ever Had" remix. And I'm sure there's about 20 other examples out there. Not quite the same, but I'm still surprised Ye used it.

Jay: Kind of an oddly basic verse from Hova, there's very little complexity here for a man who usually embeds his verses with crazy double meanings. The only real pause moment here is the MC Hammer/bankruptcy/Please Hammer don't hurt em" reference. Still better that 99% of the dudes out there. Plus he's motherfucking loaded, so that helps. Update: Just caught the double meaning behind "in store", so there's that too. Update again: And the majors/minors line, and "not playing(plane)". So basically I take it back. This is way more complex than I thought at first.

Pusha: Killed it. Just killed it dead. Nice wordplay, nice delivery, matches the beat's tone dead on. My pick for the best verse (see the poll below). I'm stoked to hear Push over more Kanye beats. The man's solo album could be crazy.

CyHi: Dude's a lot better than the haters think, but I don't think he's blowing anyone away here. A great look for him though, this will raise his profile substantially. On a side note, I had to chuckle at his
"You haters have PhDs" line considering one of my favorite Kanye lines of all time is, "Yeah I got a PhD, a pretty huge dick." Anyway....

RZA: So basically he's the bizarro Swizzy on this track. Only does some ad-libs, but they sound dope. Obviously would have liked to hear more from the man, but if you're only going to be on a track for 15 seconds, that's how you do it.

Overall: You have to hand it to the man, no one else is making music this huge and this repeat worthy right now. Kanye's running the game right now, and the internets may just explode when Jay-Z x West digital EP, Watch The Throne, drops on November 23.
