K. Sparks’ Latest Marks “The Return” of Dopeness (Listen & Download)

Like drinking Gatorade to ease a hangover, life is all about balance. That's why after 30 minutes of writing about the major-label Goliath that is Nicki Minaj's new record I needed some strictly dope, strictly indie hip-hop to balance my eardrums out. In other words, I need to bump some new K. Sparks.

First and foremost, respect to producer Bugseed for laying down such an ill beat on "The Return" - it really reminds me of some old school Tribe shit, only smoother. I'm really digging the jazz/Harlem Renaissance streak Sparks has been on. Speaking of which, there's no surprise here. Once again the prolific NYC emcee comes through with flows and lyricism; especially on the beginning on that second verse, the man really found the pocket there.

"The Return" isn't attached to a larger project yet, but given the man's track record a new album should be arriving in 5, 4, 3.... In the meantime, enjoy:
