I won't front. When the new video for Young Dro's "I Don't Know Y'all" landed in my inbox I expected to watch another cars, cash and hos extravaganza, what I got instead was a video the likes of which I've literally never seen before. The video's visually stunning and also provides an unflinching and sometimes celebratory look at what life is really like for the resident's of Young Dro's native Bankhead.
The Refined Take:
1) This may not literally be the first time someone's used this visual effect, but it's the first time I've seen it. I can only really describe it as intentionally grainy, dull quasi-3d images splashed with vibrant color. Just like everyone ripped off the Matrix' slow-mo fighting moves after the first movie dropped, I guarantee you we'll see a flood of new videos using this special effect in the next few months.
2) I don't know who that dude is, but he sure loves himself some tricycle.
3) The most arresting shots of this video are of the neighborhood's children - their faces seem dripped in dirt yet they're often as happy as any other kids. Just beautiful stuff.
4) In fact, the real star of this video isn't Young Dro, but the neighborhood and its residents. With that said, Dro himself puts in some damn good work.
5) Yung L.A. also stops in for a guest verse. Hmmm....I wonder what Masta Ace and EDO G would have to say about that?

the video effect reminds me of trippin. Real cool video, and the track is surprisingly catchy.

For sure, I have to say I was really impressed with this video. Might just be the best video I've seen in a while.
