Schoolboy Q & Kendrick Lamar Carry on Scarface’s Tradition on “Blessed” (Listen & Download)

According to rap legend, Scarface was walking into the studio with Jay-Z to record "This Can't Be Life" when he got a call that his best friend's sons had died in a fire. He trashed the verse he had written, sat down and in fifteen minutes had come up with one of the best verses in hip-hop history.

It's a story that instantly came to mind when I first heard Schoolboy Q's new joint "Blessed". I don't know the background on this one, but if the lyrics are to believed Schoolboy's friend recently lost a friend and he pulled in his TDE compatriot Kendrick Lamar to lay down a tribute in the form of some real rap. This is the essence of hip-hop right here.
