Gilbere Forte is Going Up From the “1st Floor” (Listen & Download)

Part of what angered me about Lil Wayne's "Rebirth" album is that everyone praised him for mixing musical genres like he was the only one taking hip-hop in another direction, when in fact there are hundreds of hip-hop artists breaking music boundaries in much braver ways then Weezy's obvious and merely surface level hard rock/rap hybrid. Case in point, newcomer Gilbere Forte and his new mixtape cut "1st Floor", a remix of sorts of indie rock band Freelance Whale's "Generator 1st Floor" (see below) that dopely sounds like nothing I've ever heard before. We hear true originality so rarely it needs to be rewarded. Props to Forte.

Forte's new mixtape "87 Dreams" is set to drop on the mothership in the next couple weeks. If this track is any indication, I'm stoked to hear it.

You really need to check out the Freelance Whales' original version to appreciate how he flipped it. Download link is below the video.
