Given the ghostwriting contests, 47 minute freestyles, pointless beef, terrible leaks and tweeting scandals my expectations for Game's new "R.E.D. Album" were somewhere between OJ Da Juiceman and shrug levels. So you can imagine my surprise when it turned out the album is actually pretty damn good. Seriously. A no track is better than his collaboration with Kendrick Lamar, "The City".
First off, Kendrick absolutely First 48ed this cut. This is everything that's made him one of the best reasons to believe in the west coast's Renaissance. But Game deserves some credit for giving Kendrick his most high-profile feature to date. Sure there's the Dr. Dre connection, but established L.A. rappers (Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, etc.) are notorious for ignoring young cats and Jayceon went out of his way to give Kendrick some shine. Speaking of which, he doesn't get outshone on the mic - this is the kind of passion and self-reflection that first had me banging "The Documentary".
Goddamn, where's this Game been for the last three years?
