Fails of the Week: Baracka Flacka Flame, the Smanging Movement & More!

Posted by Nathan S. on 10/29/10 | Filed under Top Stories, Features, Fails of the Week

Schadenfreude is a psychological terms used to describe someone who takes pleasure in the failure of others (aka haters), and while I certainly didn't derive any enjoyment from some of the epic f**k ups below, they were too egregious not to be called out. In the latest of an ongoing series that will include the best...or worst...fails of the week from the world of hip-hop, sports, pop culture and beyond, I examine the Baracka Flacka Flame controversy, smanging it and the perils of taunting Canadian football players.

Surprise - Waka Flocka is a Hypocritical Idiot

Comedians Martin Usher and James Davis' "Head of the State" video has been the subject of intense controversy this week, with some claiming that the parody video goes too far by flipping Waka Flocka's "Hard in the Paint" as an Obama parody, including.....Waka Flocka and his mom. That's right, Waka said it was disappointing to "see how ignorant other people can be," and his mom/manager took it a step further, claiming, “That’s not a positive image for us, period, as African-Americans, where we came from, where we’re going today."

Deep breaths. Serenity now, serenity now. Nope it's not working....

Shut up. Shut the fuck up. "That's not a positive image for us, period, as African-Americans"!?! What, as opposed to Waka's uplifting and socially conscious original? Love it or hate it, this video will be forgotten about in a month. Flocka, on the other hand, has profited off a continued and coordinated marketing campaign centered entirely around the most ignorant, violent, sexist and stereotypical music imaginable. See, the joke is that Waka embodies every negative stereotype of Black people, while Obama embodies everything positive about Black people, so juxtaposing the two makes it a parody.

God I hate these people so much.

A Round of Applause for the RIAA Everyone
INSERT KEYWORDS

Victory! The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), the group that represents all the major labels, finally won a court battle to shut down file sharing site LimeWire. Phew, now that LimeWire's out of the way the music industry should immediately go back to the way it was in the incredibly profitable '90s.

Wait, what's that? The RIAA spent four years and millions of dollars in legal fees to shut down a site literally no one I know uses? And in the meantime thousands of other sites have popped up in its place? Yeah, you're right, the RIAA's a fucking joke. Great work guys. Here's an idea. Instead of spending all this time and money fighting file sharing sites, invest in creating music that doesn't suck and music distribution systems that work in the 21st century. Or get those unemployment applications ready. Either one. Your choice.

Smang This

Dear People Who Have Emailed Me Freaking Out Over "Smang It" Screaming About How Hip-Hop's Dead: Fucking relax. It's a joke. It's supposed to be terrible. As is this video, this video and this video they did. I try not to advocate for drug use, but take some Valium. It'll help.

And You Thought Ron Artest Was Bad

Note to self: Don't heckle Canadian high school football teams.
