Could You Have Turned Eminem’s “Fly Away” Into a Hit? (Listen & Download)

At this rate it's only a matter of weeks before we have an album's worth of tracks that didn't make Eminem's "Recovery". Following the obviously rough draft "Give Me the Ball" and the not really that good ""Oh No", the latest unwanted Em material to find its way onto the interwebs is the maybe, possibly ok "Fly Away".

The key to listening to reference tracks like this isn't to listen to the song, but to listen to what the song could be. The production, by Just Blaze, is completely unmixed, so it doesn't bang nearly as hard as it could, and obviosly that auto-tuned hook from Red 5 would have been completely overworked. Personally I fee like there could be something here, but we're a long, long way off. Get a rock singer on that hook, it already has a subtle country influence, and with Em's solid rhymes you could have had something.

What does RefinedHype Nation think? Does this have hit potential? Who should have been brought in for the hook?

I can't imagine that would have been a single. The lyrics would not edit well for radio. But I agree, definitely could have been something for Recovery. The other tracks that have recently leaked were Relapse rejects, not Recovery.

I defininently understand what you mean by the potential of this song. The lyrics were rough and tough. This would have been one hell of a song to bump to when longboarding.

I actually think Just Blaze should stay on the track, just re-do it a bit and mix it. No auto-tune so he can sound like a person and not a robot, and then Eminem can add a few background vocals to the hook.

Hell, I like this version. Especially the hook. I think this would've been really good with some work. IMO, this is the best of the Recovery leftovers, or whatever they're called.

^ I think the hardest thing to hear is the beat - it's so in the background you can't feel it. But really mix it and I think the core of a dope song is there.

I'd actually grab someone like Novel to do a slightly gritier, soul based hook. That could be dope.
