Only the good lord, the man himself and the brass at Atlantic know what's going on behind the scene of Donnis' career. This summer we got hit with a slew of new material intended to build hype around his debut album, "Fashionably Late", and then....more or less nothing. Until today and new release "Blackberry Molasses".
Forget "Tonight", this is what got me first excited about Donnis in the first place. With Crada & Organized Noize providing a supremely hazy and mellow beat, Donnis digs into his notebook for some dopely lyrical and autobiographical rhymes. It's something like the kind of music Wale used to make before he started throwing bills at strippers with Rick Ross. This track is actually off his upcoming "Southern Lights" album, which means I frankly don't know when we can expect the debut album, if ever, but either way, I'm more hopeful Donnis has a dope album in him after hearing this.
