DJ Kay Slay
I'm not gonna lie, this pic of Kay Slay is kind of fantastic

I just realized that in many ways I launched RefinedHype because of DJ Kay Slay. I'd prefer not to be screamed at by Slay the next time I'm in NYC, but I have to be honest - 90% of what the man does is forgettable at best. But every so often, like on "60 Second Assassins", he comes through with a pretty ill cut. That's what I'm here for, to wade through the hype and only give you the good shit, like the only two tracks you need to hear off his new mixtape "The Soul Controller".

First up is "Put the Mic Down", an up-and-coming showcase featuring Fred the Godson, Jon Connor, Kendrick Lamar and Jay Rock (I'm going with Connor as the track's best verse). On the flip side is "Let the Dogs Loose", which shows the vets aren't nearly as hungry as the younger heads, but still contains some nice verses from Raekwon, Busta Rhymes, Sheek Louch, Papoose and Styles P (oh yeah, Papoose is still alive).

Enjoy. As for figuring out if there's anything worth listening to on the new DJ Scream mixtape, you're on your own.

I see why they sent Arnold from the future, but even he can't contain that ill flow.
