Apparently Blu Recorded Over Black Star’s “Fix Up” Beat Before Black Star (Listen & Download)

According to that always reliable source the interwebs, Blu was a little surprised to hear Black Star use Madlib's "The Fix" beat for their comeback track, you know, considering he had recorded to the same beat a year earlier, although he never released it. Until now. Ladies and gentlemen, "ex".

Who had the beat first? Who knows, but I'm willing to bet the explanation isn't nearly as dramatic as we'd like to believe. Here's how I'm guessing it went down:

Madlib, Kweli and Mos Def in the studio:

Talib: "Yo, this 'The Fix' beat is crazy, I want this. Is it available?"

Madlib: "Actually, I gave that to Blu a while back but he never did anything with it. Let me check with him."

(Madlib emails Blu. Blu responds by emailing back a picture of a unicorn hat.

Mos: "So?"

Madlib: "He sent back a picture of a unicorn hat, I have no idea what that means. You know what, the beat's yours. Who knows what's going on with that dude, go for it."

That may not be exactly what happened, but honestly, tell me that's not a completely plausible scenario. Both versions are below for compare and contrast purposes. Will all due respect to Blu, whatever happened to give Black Star the beat instead, I'm glad it happened.
