With the exception of 2003's fist-pumping jam "Pump It Up" neither Jersey rapper
Joe Budden nor the group he's apart of have had much luck in the mainstream single sector. And with a new single that features both
Lil Wayne and R&B singer
Tank on top of production from T-Minus, Budden's newest record, "Put It Down," clearly seems poised for mainstream success but does it actually achieve it?
I would say so. I mean, the record's got mainstream written all over it. From T-Minus' bass-driven production to the club-worthy hook courtesy of Tank. Do I personally like the song? Not quite, and I'm pretty sure that die-hard Budden fans with a penchant for no-nonsense lyricism won't be doting on this one either.
The formula for "Put It Down" and similar records is just way too basic and overdone. Guest verse from superstar rapper plus R&B heavy hook plus recycled production gets a little boring after awhile.
