Alicia Keys New Video “Doesn’t Mean Anything” (Watch)

Posted by Nathan S. on 10/19/09 | Filed under Videos, Alicia Keys

Apparently I just cant' stop watching videos from supremely talented and beautiful women who play the piano. Today Alicia Key's new video for her single "Doesn't Mean Anything" dropped and you knew I had to post the latest work from my dream wife - god I hope my fiancee isn't reading this. Anyway, it's definitely worth your time. Enjoy:

The Refined Take:

1) I'm not a cinematographer, but her pink dress contrasted against the gray background of the city is a dope look. And yes, I am mentally capable of commenting on the artistic merit of videos even while staring at Alicia.
2) Keys is a master at taking a subtle track and slowly building it up into a dramatic epic and this is another great example. Her last album "As I Am" was a near-classic and if "Doesn't Mean Anything" is any indication, her new album 'The Element of Freedom" will be too.
3) Not really a big fan of the whole transition to the desert thing. Remind me again why the video ends with Alicia standing on top of a poorly computer generated mountain? The video was beautiful when it was just in her apartment, but it looks like the directors suddenly realized they were way under budget and started adding ridiculous special effects. Sometimes less is more, and this is definitely the case here.
4) I don't usually get involved in the gossip thing, but if Alicia is indeed involved with Swizzy, that will be the biggest talent gap in a relationship since Ciara and Bow Wow were together. Now, when Common was her fake boyfriend in the "Like You'll Never See Me Again" video, that was a relationship I can approve of. Basically as a music fan I'd love for Common and Alicia to have a baby - that kid would be the second coming of Jesus Christ, if Jesus made unbelievably good music.
5) I'm feeling a little nostalgic today. Remember "Fallin"? Damn that video was the shit. For compare and contrast purposes, here's what a 20-year-old, not yet famous Alicia Keys looked like.

god the CG on that mountain sucks. I get how the desert is a metaphor for the emptiness in Alicia's life now that her love is gone, but it was a little over the top. Dope song though, this is going to be a great album, i feel it.

Yeah, I was iffy about the mountain graphic too. It would have been dope if they did it in real life. But the video was great overall. Alicia looked as beautiful as ever and this song is beautiful. I can't wait for the new Alicia Keys album. I fell in love with her when she was 20 years old. I still love her today.
