Now I seriously doubt that anyone’s going to stop calling Mos Def, well, Mos Def - his name is ingrained in my rap DNA at this point - but I respect the newly minted Yaasin Bey for the way he’s going about the name change thing.

Simply put, he’s been saying, “Listen, I know you’re probably gonna keep calling me Mos Def, but I changed my name for me, and if you could call me Yaasin Bey from now on that’d be dope. If it doesn’t happen I understand, it still won’t affect my choice.”
