I can almost guarantee this isn’t going where you think it is.

Yes, it’s obviously true that Mystikal fucked up by violating his parole and going back to jail. Once again, I contend that recently released rappers should hire someone whose sole job is making sure they don’t violate parole.

But that’s not really what this is about. I happened to see that Mystikal’s arrest was the most popular story on the Huffington Post this week. That’s weird, I thought, why is the arrest of a marginally famous rapper the most popular story on a mainstream news site?

And then I scrolled down to the comments section…oh, I see. It’s the most popular story because people apparently love saying incredible racist shit about rappers. Awesome:

It’s actually good to be reminded that for a significant portion of America “rap” still equals scary/dangerous/criminal/black people doing scary black people things. Thanks Mystikal.
