Wake Me When It’s Over: Breaking Down the 2012 BET Award Cyphers

I don’t think there’s any debate that this year’s BET Awards Cyphers were, on the whole, about as much fun as a bottle of Ambien and red wine. I’ve heard some argue that last year’s ridiculous Shady 2.0 cypher set the bar too high, and there’s some truth to that. But I also think some rappers, even really dope ones, just aren’t built for the cypher format. You don’t want Dwight Howard shooting 3s, you don’t want JJ Reddick posted in the paint, and you don’t want Trae the Truth in a cypher. That’s no knock on Trae, cyphers just aren’t his game.
