Go ahead. Start fronting like you didn't sing along to P.M. Dawn's hit single "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss" back in the day. Although they've been largely lost to the annals of history now, in 1991 P.M. Dawn (a.k.a. brothers Prince Be and DJ Minutemix) improbably turned their debut album "Of the Heart, of the Soul and of the Cross" into an international smash on the strength of their almost impossibly soft lead single. "Baby you send me..."
The Refined Take:
1) I think I just figured out my Halloween costume for this year. Now all I need is a pink bandana, some hippie sunglasses and a small oak tree's worth of wood necklaces. When I'm posting pics on October 31 and you're jealous of my dope ass costume, just remember it started here.
2) I'd take a brave rapper to really go in on this, but I'd love to hear someone flip this sample. Consider that a challenge. Anyone who does it well gets a post.
3) "I guess I'll leave that question to the experts / assuming that there are some out there / they're probably alone...solitaire." Oh shit! Do we have the earliest know example of the elongated pause rap style! This must have been how Howard Carter felt when he discovered King Tut's tomb in 1922; excitement mixed with a sense of dread.
4) "Ok guys, so here's the plan. We get a girl and dress her in white spandex tights with painted black lines. Then we have her jump on a trampoline. I don't know, maybe she can jump into a pool. I don't want to get too crazy." - Director
5) So what's P.M. Dawn up to now? After their sophomore album "Jesus Wept" didn't do well (shocking) the brothers have continued to make music. There's apparently been a new album titled "P.M. Dawn Loves You" in the works for years, but it obviously has yet to materialize. Maybe someday.
